The Story So Far

The Mallees are a four-piece band from the vibrant coastal town of Southsea that have burst onto the scene in recent months, captivating audiences with seductive melodies and thought-provoking lyrics. 

 

Their debut single ‘Losing Our Minds’ was an instant success, featuring on local music charts, BBC Introducing, and racking up over 1k streams on Spotify in the first week of release. With each subsequent release The Mallees have continued to capture the hearts of fans, steadily building their social media following and monthly listeners on streaming platforms. 

 

From The Smiths to Soundgarden, The Mallees take inspiration from a rich array of rock, indie and punk music. Lead guitarist Jake Jones is particularly influenced by the intricate melodies of Johnny Marr and the swaggering riffs of Graham Coxon, bringing an upbeat and accessible melodic texture to the band whilst Australian lead singer Jonah K Halley follows this up by confronting the listener with a stark exploration of disillusionment, disorientation and discontent in modern society. Underpinning this are the pounding rhythms of Leeds-born drummer Ibi Bukhari and the thumping, melodic basslines of Shay St Ledger - the beating, energetic heart of this electrifying quartet. 

 

The band's distinctive sound, combined with their unapologetic exploration of pertinent societal issues, has earned them a dedicated following. Through their music, The Mallees fearlessly critique the trappings of modern life, explore the struggle of overcoming mental health challenges, condemn the prevalent abuse of power in modern society, and articulate the experiences of young adults in modern times.
